The more things change, the more they stay the same. I hate that quote as much as someone saying "Keri, we need to talk."

Hate that, hate that, hate those words so much X/

*cough* Anyways, problem I came across:

I am currently looking at Molly Hayes fanart from the Runaways by Marvel (very cool story) and came across some artists that claim to be artists but in many eyes they need to break AWAY from the TRACING of other famous artist's work. We are talking the likes of Jim Lee and Scott Campbell and M. Turner just to name a few recognizable - some cover art (?). They don't even list their art under fan stuff, they just attach their names to their crappy traces and post it on HERE for all to see. Daw, there seems to be a community for these people - it's a wee bit hard on the eyes how squishy heart lovin' these groups are.
I haven't seen any DA artist's recognizable work (some are that bad), and if I do find anythin concrete - I'll note the original. But my goshly-darn TRACES???? - treading that fine line between stealing and calling it your own (is it stealing?). And many of us have mentioned with past rants this being a form of flattery, right? And the need for attention - whether it be positive, negative or whatever, huh?
After the age of 16 you would think they would learn to make up their own thing (I did! At a young age I figured out not to fib one's abilities - but sometimes how else can you learn????)... But some of these people CLAIM to be in their 20's (doubtful - I know some of you have changed accounts because you wanted to see adult work) and I would have thought they would know enough to say "hey this was originally done by such'n'such, this is my take on blah blah blah" at least acknowledge where they got their source material from - or that a faux pas as well???

*snarl*

This is freakin' frustrating to see....


and it all boils down to me having a hang-over, my face hurts, I am love-sick AND slightly jealous at the amount of faves they get while I see little to nothin'. Go fig - bloody shame.

28 years old and angstin' like a teen. Shoot me head first into bed and don't bother wakin me up until after noon.

There is no such thing as talent.
People call me 'talented'. Whatever. I have the ability when I apply it and do it around the clock. You can out do me easily with determination and hard work - learning the newest trick online and from proper classes. Drawing everyday and constant critiques on what can be done the best way we know how until... you have what you want... your own style. Your own art. It comes when you ask it to. Talent is not a word you want to use around your muses.
Your muses are the drive to do it.
Those of us who are more naturally inclined to pick up a crayon at an early age and scribble on every bit of surface we can find are labeled 'talented'.... annnd... other things. And if current society doesn't kill that creativity we go on to make a career out of it. Risky biz.
But there are others that become determined later on to draw and paint and do it well... look at Mark and all the others who started later on in their teens. They decided later on and kept at it. It's just a mental muscle group you have to train.
If you don't use it.... you loose it.

I speak from experience. I don't draw as much when I have a full or part time job. My mind becomes rooted in reality. I don't have the patience and I am usually pretty tired when I think about doing anything artistic. What happens when a limb or muscle is in disuse for a long period of time? Atrophy? Loss of muscle mass and strength. Same thing with art. I'm not as strong as I could be... will be...
